Did you know that Blacksburg has a co-operative program that allows you to recycle all of your household batteries (rechargeable & non-rechargeable) in a safe way? Did you know that, if you throw your household batteries in the trash, you are depositing toxic and even carcinogenic chemicals into the landfill, and if these chemicals leach into the surrounding ground water (which is highly likely), they will eventually sicken aquatic life and get into someones drinking water? This is because no landfill liners will last forever. How can we best prevent this future pollution?
To find out how and where you can recycle the used household batteries from your home, just move your cursor to the RECYCLING pull-down menu, and select the word “Batteries“. Not only will this page tell you how and where these batteries can be recycled, it will also tell you who collects them and where they are sent to recover the valuable and toxic components for re-use.
PLEASE HELP US KEEP THESE TOXIC BATTERIES OUT OF OUR LANDFILL!
