SEE THE FILM:  JOIN THE DISCUSSIONSustainFloyd’s 2014 Film Series kicks off this week with “American Meat”.  A solutions-oriented documentary chronicling the current state of the U.S. meat industry, it takes an even-handed look at animal husbandry.  First explaining how America arrived at our current Farmerindustrial system, the story shifts to the present day, showing the feedlots and confinement houses, not through hidden cameras but through the eyes of the farmers who live and work there.  From there, the documentary introduces the revolution taking root in animal husbandry, led by the charismatic and passionate Joel Salatin.Find more details of the event on their web site film page: http://sustainfloyd.org

The film will be followed by a community discussion, headed by David Maren of Tendergrass Farms, Larry Bright of Bright’s Farm and Jon Vest, Floyd County Extension Agent.  They are expecting a lively discussion of the past, present and future of livestock farming in Floyd.

Come at 6:00 pm to enjoy the Chili and Cornbread supper.  They will feature a sampling of grass-fed beef chili form Stoneroot Farm in Floyd as well as vegan chili.  Tickets for a $5 donation at the door, with an additional $5 donation for chili and cornbread.
