Linear Fluorescent Tubes

ST FluorescentBecause of their Mercury content, ALL fluorescent light bulbs, regardless of type,  should be recycled, so that the toxic Mercury in these bulbs can be safely removed and reused.

All homeowners and business owners should take their used, straight-tube fluorescent bulbs and defective ballasts directly to our Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority (MRSWA).  MRSWA will dispose of these items through their Universal Waste Program, and fees are charged UNLESS you are a verified resident of Montgomery County.

Fees for Montgomery County business owners are as follows:

  • Fluorescent Tubes – $0.10 per foot ($0.25 minimum)
  • Fluorescent Light Ballasts – range from$0.20 to $0.70 per pound.

These fees are waived for Montgomery County residents who present a valid driver’s license or utility bill to verify their residency.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE STRAIGHT-TUBE FLUORESCENT BULBS & BALLASTS AT THE YMCA OR OTHER CFL RECYCLING LOCATIONS IN BLACKSBURG.  Take them to MRSWA for recycling!

While Homeowners are at MRSWA, they can also recycle TVs, computers, CFLs, and batteries FREE OF CHARGE!

For more information, please call the MRSWA folks at (540) 381-2820 ext.0.

MRSWA is located 555 Authority Drive in Christiansburg.  CLICK HERE for driving directions.
