LEED-Certified Buildings At Virginia Tech

S_visitorcenter-1Member Deny Cochrane passed along the following information to SB on 25 Jan 13:

“VT has 14 buildings LEED registered on the Blacksburg campus (a total of 1,006,318 Gross Square Feet).  Four are completed and have received LEED Certification (2 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Certified).  Three are completed (and) awaiting LEED Certification.  Six are under construction and one is in the design phase.”

We offer our congratulations to the Virginia Tech administration for this ongoing and far-sighted commitment toward a more sustainable future.  Truly Inventing the Future!

I think our SB members will be very pleased (astonished?) to hear that the Commonwealth of Virginia is now ranked, by the Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council, as the top state for green buildings in 2012.  The Old Dominion, once a laggard in the green building movement, led the 50 states in buildings certified during the year as meeting Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.  For more information about these rankings, CLICK HERE. and also HERE.
